Born and raised in Chikuho, Koume studied to be a Geisha in North Kyushu before debuting as a singer in 1929. "Hontouni Sounara" (1933) by M. Koga became her big hit. Attaining national singer stardom with many popular, folk hits such as "Kurodabushi" and "Kankobushi", she died at 85 in 1992. The film pursues her life by interviewing those who knew her and by using her surviving songs and visual footage.
