Fukuoka Audience Award

About the Award

Focus on Asia Fukuoka International Film Festival established the Audience Award in 2006 to promote Asian Cinema. The winner is chosen by audience voting, and the Award is presented to the director of the award-winning film. It is one opportunity for film directors to know the direct feedback from the audience.

The Aim of the Award

The Focus on Asia Fukuoka International Film Festival “Audience Award” was established with the aim to contribute to the promotion of Asian cinema culture by rewarding talented film directors. In terms of the method to choose awardee, Fukuoka Audience take a role to be involved in fostering Asian filmmakers directly by choosing excellent films through their eyes.

The Method to Decide the Winner

The audience are asked to evaluate the competing motion picture on a five scale grading system at the screening of each film (the first screening). Film Assessment Forms are given to the audience voters at the time of entering the venue, and the Forms are collected at the end of screening. For each film, an average score shall be tabulated, and the motion picture with the highest average score shall be the winner.

Rules and Regulations

- The award shall be called the "Fukuoka Audience Award" (Award).

- All motion pictures invited to the Focus on Asia Fukuoka International Film Festival ("Festival")are eligible to compete for the Award.

- All competing motion pictures shall be exhibited to a voting audience at least one day prior to the Award Ceremony.

- Each audience voter will be handed a Film Assessment Form at the time he or she enters the venue for voting.
All Films Assessment Forms will be collected from the voting audience after the screening as each voter departs form the venue.

- The voting audience shall evaluate the competing motion picture on a five scale grading system.

- All Film Assessment Forms will be collected for each competing motion picture from the voting audience after which an average score for each motion picture shall be tabulated. The Award shall be presented to the competing motion picture with the highest average score.

- The recipient of the Award will be announced at the Award Ceremony.

- The Award shall be presented to the director of the selected motion picture.

- The recipient of the Award shall receive an Award Certificate, an Award Trophy and a prize.
The prize shall be presented to the director of the selected motion picture after the conclusion of the Festival.

- In the event there is no one other than the recipient of the Award authorized to exhibit the Award winning motion picture in Japan, the recipient of the Award shall then authorize the Festival Executive Committee to hold several film exhibitions of the motion picture for the purpose of publicizing the Award.

- Detailed information on any such film exhibition shall be disclosed to the winner
