“BAD GENIUS” FROM THAILAND TAKES FUKUOKA’S 2017 AUDIENCE AWARD
Since 2006, the Focus on Asia Fukuoka International Film Festival has presented its “Fukuoka Audience Award” where a film is selected based on votes cast by the audience. This year 20 titles representing 19 nations and regions competed for the “Fukuoka Audience Award” which was presented to the film with the highest audience evaluation based on motion pictures shown at our festival between September 16~18. And finally to the announcement of the winner of the “Audience Award” ! “This year’s Fukuoka Audience Award goes to the Thai film…BAD GENIUS”. After a drum roll, KUBOTA Isao, Chairman of the Focus on Asia Fukuoka Interantional Film Festival Executive Committee proclaimed the award-winning film. The audience then responded with a thunderous round of applause.
After receiving the award trophy from Festival Director HARIKI Yasuhiro, Nattawut POONPIRIYA, film director of the 2017 Fukuoka Audience Award winning film, “BAD GENIUS”, expressed his utter joy of being selected by saying: “Thank you everyone. I’d like to accept this award on behalf of every single person in the production team who could not attend this festival. As this great film festival presented a special feature on Thai films, I think the award not only goes to this film but also to all Thai films presented here. Thank you again.”
”VIOLINIST” FROM IRAN TAKES THE 2017 KUMAMOTO CITY PRIZE!
After the Audience Award, the winner of the Kumamoto City Prize was announced. The Kumamoto City Prize is presented as one aspect of collaboration between Fukuoka City and Kumamoto City. It was established to further contribute to the growth of our film festival, which is regarded as a distinguished film festival in Asia. The Prize is presented as a runner up prize to the Audience Award.
“The selected film is “VIOLINIST” from Iran” procalimed NAKAMOTO Masato, Deputy Section Chief of Cultural Promotion Division, Cultural Promotion Division, Culture and Sport Exchange Department Economic Promotion and Tourism Bureau City of Kumamoto. Receiving the award certificate, the supplementary award and trophe, film director Mohammad Ali TALEBI expressed his joy by saying, “Words cannot describe how overjoyed I feel about accepting this award. The award means something really special to me, especially since it comes from everyone in the audience. This is my 4th participation in this festival but I am truly grateful on this occasion to be able to receive this award.” He continued : “Actually after I lost my son, I was very depressed. I made this film to pull myself out of depression. I think receiving your award for this film will help futher my efforts to get over my depression. Thank you so very much.”
