They were well received as a well-balanced selection of excellent films. 3.FILMS FROM TAIWAN~TAIWAN FILM RENAISSANCE 2014Co-organized by the Taiwan Film Festival with cooperation received from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office and the Taipei Cultural Center, our special feature “Films from Taiwan~Taiwan Film Renaissance 2014” Our Opening Film of the Film Festival exhibited “Apolitical Romance”, a Taiwanese film depicting the delicate relationship between Taiwan and Mainland China. On September 16 (Tuesday) the commemorative symposium “How to Make Attractive In collaboration with the “Treasured Masterpieces from the National Palace Museum Taipei” special exhibit, “The Passage”, a Taiwanese film associated with the same museum, was exhibited. A special screening of the Taiwanese blockbuster film “KANO” was shown on September 20 (Saturday). Umin Boya, the film director, Masatoshi Nagase, the leading actor and actress Maki Sakai all greeted the audience from the stage. 4.FUKUOKA ONE MINUTE FILM COMPETITONThe competition was held on September 15 (Monday and a holiday) under the theme“Conveying the Charm of Fukuoka to the World”. Of the 73 short films submitted, 10 were selected by a special jury of four including film director Gakuryu Ishii, and later exhibited. The Grand Prize went to film director Shuma’s “A Photographer, the Pull of Fukuoka”. 5.SPECIAL FEATURE ON JAPANESE FILMS“SHARAKU AND OTHER DARING UKIYOE ARTISTS”The special feature was presented from September 17 (Thursday) through September 21 (Sunday). The special feature addressed the theme of “Ukiyoe”, regarded as essential for the masses and a form of media art during the Edo Period in feudal Japan. The special feature presented 7 films depicting the unprecedented human portrait of Ukiyoe artists who left behind a genre of art masterpieces. 2 of the 7 films were directed by Masahiro Shinoda who appeared in a Talk Event as a special guest. 6.THE FUKUOKA AUDIENCE AWARD CEREMONY AND THE SHOWING OF “THE WAY WE DANCE”On September 17 (Thursday), the winners of this year’s Fukuoka Audience Award and Kumamoto City Prize were announced in a ceremony. The Fukuoka Audience Award goes to the film receiving the highest number of votes cast by the audience while the Kumamoto City Prize is presented to film with the second highest number of votes cast. This year, the Fukuoka Audience Award went to “The Jungle School” and the Kumamoto City Prize to “Fuku-chan of FukuFuku Flats”. After the official award ceremony, “The Way We Dance”, winner of last year’s Fukuoka Audience Award, was shown to the audience. 7.COLLABORATION WITH THE FUKUOKA ASIAN ART TRIENNALE 2014On September 14 (Sunday), 4 films submitted to the Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale 8.THE CREATIVE EVENT:“EXHIBITION OF SHIKUMI DESIGN IN CANAL CITY”The “Exhibition of Shikumi Design in Canal City” was presented from September 12 (Friday) through September 23 (Tuesday and a holiday) . The event was held within the South Building of Canal City in two location; in front of the 1st floor front entrance and by the “mont-bell” store on the 2nd floor. The event featured the exhibition of interactive content created by the interactive design company “Shikumi Design”. Participation friendly workshops were also organized. 9.NEO CINEMAP FUKUOKAAs a first time attempt, business meetings were organized on September 16 (Tuesday) and September 17 (Wednesday) where Japanese and foreign production companies and distributors negotiated and exchanged information, centered on presentations made by Korean production companies. The event drew the participation of 5 Korean production companies, 12 Japanese distributors and several film festival guests. |
